Dairy Industry

Dairy Wastewater Treatment & Advanced Water Solutions

Overview of Dairy Wastewater Challenges

Dairy processing plants generate highly polluted wastewater with high concentrations of organic matter (BOD, COD), fats, oils and grease (FOG), proteins, lactose, and suspended solids. Due to the use of cleaning-in-place (CIP) systems, detergents, sanitizers, and other chemicals, the effluent also contains high levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and surfactants. If not properly treated, dairy wastewater can cause serious environmental damage, including eutrophication, odor problems, and toxicity to aquatic life.

Our Water and Wastewater Treatment Technologies

To address the complex characteristics of dairy wastewater and help industries meet stringent discharge regulations or achieve water reuse, we offer a complete range of innovative and proven treatment technologies, including:

1

BIOWAVE™ SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor) – 6th Generation

Our flagship solution, BIOWAVE™ SBR, is a highly flexible, energy-efficient, and compact biological treatment system suitable for variable and high-strength wastewater like that from dairy plants. Key features include:

Integrated Design

Equalization, Aeration, and Settling in a single tank

Smart Automation

Advanced control for batch operation

High Efficiency

BOD and COD removal efficiency (up to 95%)

Simultaneous Process

Nitrification and Denitrification

Low Sludge Production

Minimal waste generation

Modular Design

For phased expansion

Optional Enhancement

Tertiary Filtration and UV disinfection for water reuse

2

DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation)

Used as a primary treatment or post-SBR clarification step, DAF units effectively remove:

Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG)
Suspended solids
Colloidal materials
3

Anaerobic Pretreatment (UASB / EGSB Reactors)

For high organic loads, anaerobic systems are recommended before aerobic treatment:

Biogas recovery for energy generation
Significant COD reduction with low energy input
4

Sludge Handling & Energy Recovery

Sludge thickening, dewatering, and drying
Anaerobic sludge digesters with CHP
Sludge-to-compost or fertilizer solutions
5

Advanced Tertiary Treatment

For achieving water reuse or very low discharge limits:

UF/MF Membranes
RO systems for high-purity water
UV / Ozone disinfection
Activated carbon or ion exchange
6

Compact MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) Systems

Where space is limited and high-quality effluent is needed, our MBR systems provide:

Small footprint
High removal rates of BOD, COD, TSS, and pathogens
Excellent suitability for wastewater recycling
